About

The divided protein mixtures are moved to a solid support for additional examination after gel electrophoresis. In most laboratories, electroblotting is the method of choice because of its speed and efficiency of transfer. A current is run through the gel and onto the membrane to complete the transfer process. For western blot (WB) analysis, two popular membrane types are nitrocellulose (NC) and polyvinylidene difluoride (PVDF). PVDF membranes provide superior chemical compatibility, physical robustness, and protein retention as compared to NC membranes. PVDF is generally far superior for proteins with low molecular weights (MW).
